Bike Hire Surrey

2020 through to 2024: Due to the Covid Pandemic our hire bike service is currently suspended until further notice.

.......................

At C and N Cycles Redhill we have a fantastic range of 'Trek', 'Cannondale' and 'Townie' adult bikes available to hire. All bikes are new for for this season. We have by far the best hire bike fleet in Surrey, our bikes are replaced after 20 rides.

If you're new to cycling and just want to give it a try or have friends you want to show how much fun cycling can be, we have bikes suitable for either a scramble on the trails of the North Downs or sporty road bikes to zip around the 2012 Olympic road race cycle route over Box Hill in the Surrey Hills.

If you're really not sure what kind of riding you want to do we also have a range of Trek Hybrids that roll well on the road but are equally happy on bridle paths and tracks over Reigate Hill and beyond.

By popular demand as an optional extra we do offer a 'Premium Package' with a more upmarket bike, this starts at £65.00 per day (scroll down for full price list; Cannondale Synapse £38.50 per day). The Trek Emonda ALR 5 Road Bike redefines what's possible for weight and ride performance. This bike is very light weight thanks to 300 Series Alpha Aluminium which also gives perfect balance and an ultra-responsive ride feel. Factor in Shimano 105 components make this the perfect choice for those who want to experience the next level up from the Cannondale Synapse. Interms of comparing the riding experience between the two, think of it as all the same boxes ticked but with bigger ticks, the gears and brakes feel far more efficient, the ride feels quicker, more responsive yet it offers even more comfort; this is one stunning bike. Plus if you really like it and decide to buy one from us, we refund the day hire charge in full; be warned this is one seductive bike.

Trek Dual Sport. The fork's lockout feature ensures that you're always riding efficiently: close it for smooth road surfaces, open it up on rougher trails  A wide range of gearing means that you never have to pedal too hard or too soft, even on the biggest hills  Why choose between the road and trail? Dual Sport is a versatile hybrid that excels on a variety of terrain  'Click for some suggested cycle rides from our store'

Some suggested routes We have listed a few routes that maybe of interest that can be downloaded onto a GPS device, or for those who have a Smartphone Strava; free to use mapping and ride data. Starting with the shortest, scrolling down to the longest.

Please Note all routes are intended as suggestions only, when following any course, on any gps device there are quirks and anomalies that can occur, so always have a good idea where you are going! Yes Paul has created these routes over roads he has ridden before, but he has not then ridden each again just to see if the course works when uploaded onto a gps device! In fairness even if he had there will probably be occasions where the course will not upload to your device exactly as created. We suggest you always have a paper back up; perhaps zoom in to the course via the links below, do a screen shot then print off section of the course you are not sure of.

At the risk of stating the obvious never blindly follow a course, it may navigate you the wrong way around a mini roundabout, take you the wrong side of a bollard, or as is commonplace on a straight road for no reason what so ever it may take you twenty yards up a side road then back again! That said like most modern tech' when it works it is indeed fabulous, but when it doesn't a GPS is just as likely to drive you round the bend instead of navigating you around it! At all times you are responsible for your own safety; if the route looks like you are about to ride off a cliff then don't follow it; you will hurt yourself,

Inn on the Pond and Mercers Lake 6 mile flat loop

A popular choice for those hiring our Power Assist, hybrid and mtb bikes. This is a good route for new riders as a little taster to see what joys cycling can bring into your life. Much of the 6 mile circuit is on quiet roads and non technical tracks that make up part of the 'National Cycle Route 21 (NCR 21)', with a potential refreshment stop at the Inn on the Pond. Cycling doesn't have to be about pain gain and victory, mile munching for hours on end! It can be about 'chilling out', not 'working out', enjoying the countryside, the fresh air and just being outdoors; perhaps with a cheeky stop at a local 'Inn'. The feel good factor that this can bring for many can be just the tonic they need to gently cycle away the day to day stresses of our busy modern day lives, you're doing your self good on so many levels; go on, give it a try, you know it makes sense.

BoxHill 18 Miles

For those where riding the Box Hill to get an experience of the 2012 Olympic is a must then this is our shortest route from the store. We recommend the 39 mile version below but of time and distance are a consideration then this will get the job done! Note there is a descent of Pebble Hill at 1 miles that needs great care and why we recommend the 39 mile options.

BoxHill 25 Miles

Similar to the 18 mile route in as much that we still suggest the 39 mile option as it does not include the descent of Pebble Hill, but if time and distance deter those attempting the latter then this 25 mile option is far more picturesque than the 18 mile option.

Redhill-Lingfield Loop 26 miles In more ways than one this 26 mile loop provides a taster of just what 'Surrey Cycling' has to offer. A quick meander through the lanes perhaps with a cheeky stop for either a Coffee, Tea, cake, a full breakfast or lunch make the Green Rooms Cafe at Godstone the perfect refueling stop; well worth a visit. Alternatively meander through the lanes to the Dog and Duck pub at 21 miles (note this is a few yards off the course), a favourite on the 'London To Brighton' route with lovely food at reasonable prices.

Tanhouse Farm Loop 33 miles Quiet lanes around the Surrey Sussex border with a lovely stop just past the halfway point at Tanhousefarm for coffee, cake and homemade food, very popular venue for local cyclists. There are also plenty of pubs that offer good food, notably The Plough at Rusper near the halfway point or if you would rather get more miles under your belt the at 25 miles you have the Grumpy Mole or the The Royal Oak in the pretty village of Brockam, where the local church often promotes 'Tea on the green', well worth a visit.

Box Hill Loop 39 miles Take in some of the beautiful lanes around Surrey before a quick zip around part of the 2012 Olympic road race cycle route over the legendary Box Hill, with a welcome 'Tea stop' at the top. There are several pubs that serve food along the route, like the Seven Stars just after the 27 1/2 mile mark or just after the Plough at Leigh at 28 1/2 miles, both welcome cyclists with superb value meals.

North Downs loop 48miles

Taking in Leith Hill, Friday Street, Abinger common, Whitedown, Ranmore and Boxhill Hill this ia a true the classic of the Northdowns! Potential refreshemts stops are at 12.4 miles the Crown pub at Capel. At 19.7 miles the Stephan Langton Inn, note this is just off the course, to get there, 19.7 miles is the large Mill Pond at Friday street, instead of going straight past and up the hill, take a left turn and ride along the side of pond, just past the end of which is the 'Inn'. 20.7 miles the Abinger Hatch. Along the top of Ranmore common at 25.4 there is a tea wagon that is worth a visit as you do get good views accross to Leith Hill where you have just been. At 28.6 is the Burford Bridge Hotel, there is a side entrance, take the bikes in there and if you are feeling indulgent they do a lovely cream tea; Paul has indulged quite a few times. If you would rather get to the top of Box Hill at 30.1miles is their cafe, very very popular in the summer months. Alternatively if you would like a 'nearly finished' celebration, at 45.1 miles turn right up "Bonnys Rd" to the Skimmington Castle

Sussex loop 55 miles Longer than the box hill loop yet not as hilly, over pretty and often very quiet Surrey lanes before swooping into Sussex. There are also quite a few pub stops, like the Victory Inn and Jolly Tanners, both at the 25 1/2 mile mark near Staplefield or a little further just before the 36mile mark at Lambs Green is the aptly named Lamb Inn, There is also a lovely tea room at Tanhousefarm at 39 1/2 miles for coffee, cake and homemade food; very popular venue for local cyclists. This route offers the variety of small country lanes as well as the wide open space around plummer plain midway through the course; one of our favourites loops that showcases both counties beautifully.

Tonbridge loop to Kelly Holmes Cafe 57 miles. Stunning route along the Pilgrims way on route to Dame Kelly Holmes Cafe 1809 before looping back through the lovely lanes of Kent taking in the famous 'Ide' and 'Toys' Hills; don't worry the latter is a descent! The route also takes you past Chartwell, the home of Sir Winston Churchill. There are quite a few pubs that serve good food such as the The Cock inn at Ide Hill at 35 miles or much nearer the finish after most of the climbing is completed and with just over five miles to go is the Whyte Harte at Bletchingley. This is quite a challenging course, but is well worth the effort.

Brighton and back loop 88 miles The route to the coast is over the famous 'London to Brighton' route, for those who may not want to ride back there are regular trains to Redhill from Brighton. For those cycling back the route is on much quieter roads, this really is a superb ride that we have done many times.
